Talk & Magazine launch

Manchester Modernist Society in collaboration with Manchester School of Architecture as part of the MSA Visiting Speaker Series 2015 present:

Space, Hope and Brutalism, building in England's northern cities 1945-75

We are very lucky to have Elain Harwood for a pre-Christmas lecture and to celebrate the launch of Volume 5 of The Modernist with issue no. 17 'Factory'. Elain, in her role as Senior Architectural Investigator for Historic England, has been instrumental in raising the appreciation of post war buildings and ultimately ensuring many are protected via the listing system.

She is the author of two recently released books.

England's Post War Listed Buildings is an updated version of the previous, and indispensable, guide to all of of Britain's post 1945 listed structures.

Space, Hope and Brutalism is a lavishly illustrated and meticulously researched examination of the period.

Both books are essential reading for both academic researchers and Modernist architecture fans alike.

There will be an introductory talk - Renewal of a Regional City - from Richard Brook, Principal Lecturer at the MSA, long time MMS collaborator and the brains behind the Mainstream Modern project.

Please join us for what promises to be a lively and interesting evening.
