Urban Deprivation and the State

  • Royal Northern College of Music 124 Oxford Road Manchester, M13 9RD (map)

From the late-1960s through to the late-1970s, successive Labour and Conservative governments responded to the perceived growing crisis in some of Britain’s old industrial urban areas through a number of action-research projects. This paper will look at two of the main programmes, the Community Development Project and the Inner Area Studies, to consider their work, conclusions and their limited impact on shaping urban policy.

Talk by Dr Peter Shapley.

Tickets will be made available to the general public nearer the time of the event.
